マライヤ・キャリーのクリスマスソング「All I want for christmas is you」の日本語タイトルが「恋人たちのクリスマス」とあるように、日本ではクリスマスといえば、「恋人たちが特別なディナーを楽しみ、ロマンチックに過ごす」というバブル時代のイメージが未だに健在。しかし、クリスマスの本場、クリスチャン人口の多い欧米諸国ではクリスマスは家族や親族と過ごす1年で最も重要な一大行事です。日本のお正月さながら、親族が一同に集まり絆を深め合いう超重要イベントなのです。
家庭によっては各親族それぞれの好みに合わせたプレゼントを準備したり、趣向を凝らした料理にテーブルセッティングなどおもてなし準備を随分と前から考えたり…とクリスマスに向けて慌ただしい日々を送ることになります。
しかしどんなに綿密なクリスマスプランを立てても、予想外の災難に見舞われることもあります。「こんなはずでは…」なトラブルに涙を呑んだクリスマス報告19を紹介します。
